South Baja, or Baja Sur, has become a world-class destination, thanks to San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. These two resort towns benefit, of course, from an ideal location – perfect beaches, sunny weather and an abundance of sport fish. But they also benefit from an intentional push to provide modern amenities while preserving the Mexican character and historic charm.
The Plaza Amelia Wilkes in Cabo San Lucas, for example, stands as a testament to the classical Spanish colonial village. Down the street, rocker Sammy Hagar built his Cabo Wabo Cantina, a notorious party spot.
Some folks say San Lucas is a party town, while San Jose offers more quiet South Baja vacation rentals. If you’re in San Jose, check out the beautiful fire opals for sale at the market downtown.
