Bend used to be a quiet college town, home of the University of Oregon in Central Oregon. Over the years, however, the well-preserved downtown district, profusion of sunny days and unlimited recreation opportunities has drawn artists, adventurers, retirees and California refugees. While most people go search for adventure in the Deschutes National Forest, the desert below also holds many treasures. Smith Rock State Park is a great place to explore the sagebrush and canyons.
