We bought the oceanfront property in February of 1998 and remodeled it in March and April and again in November and December of 2004. There are only 2 units in the building. We live downstairs and rent our penthouse. It is lovely: 2 oceanfront balconies, a private downstairs oceanfront patio with built-in gas barbecue, 12 foot ceilings in parts, 4 sky lights, 4 decorative leaded glass windows (one of humming birds, one of fish and two of ocean scenes), Italian tile throughout, 3 TVs connected to cable and one VCR, very special bathrooms (master with both a whirlpool tub and a separate shower with his and her shower heads), large master bedroom (14 feet by 17 feet), all linens and towels (beach towels too), an in-unit washer and dryer, a private 2 car garage with in tandem parking for two cars, a very well-equipped kitchen (microwave, dishwasher, disposal, juiceman juicer, coffee grinder, food processor, fondue pot etc.), and (my favorite) a dining area surrounded by nearly 180 degrees of glass with panoramic views so that it is like being outside inside. We have a very child friendly environment with covers on all the unused electric outlets, a high chair, beach toys (pails, shovels, balls, Frisbees), and children's books (Dr. Seuss) and some videos. The adjacent two-oceanfront buildings do not have any vacation rentals. By the by, the unit is 1300 square feet (this is "large" for an oceanfront unit), and is 2 bedroom, 2 bath, sleeping 6. We are environmentally conscious and use no toxic pesticides or harsh cleaning chemicals. In case you would like to review our property, we have our own web site at http://www.missionbeachgetaway.com The pictures are not quite current because they do not show the leaded glass windows. Our guests tell me that the unit is much nicer than the pictures suggest because the pictures do not capture the spaciousness, light airy feeling. The address of our home is 2645/47 Ocean Front Walk and it is located in South Mission Beach, well south of Belmont Park. North Mission is a bit seedy and crowded. South Mission is more spacious and built about 10 years ago. Year-round residents tend to live here. |

Directions to 2645 Ocean Front Walk
Coming to San Diego on Highway 8:
Follow signs to beaches. Take exit to Sports Arena Blvd, and turn right over bridge. Do NOT take the first right after the bridge (which goes to Sea World Drive) but take the second right onto cloverleaf to West Mission Bay Drive. This takes you across another bridge and terminates at Mission Blvd, where you see the roller coaster on your left.
Turn left on Mission Blvd and continue south. Go about half a mile and turn right onto San Luis Rey. Proceed to Strand Way and turn left. Strand Way is an alley behind the Ocean Front Walk houses and provides access to the garages of these houses. Continue to our home, which has 2645 and 2647 in large black wrought iron letters on your right. Welcome!
From airport at Lindberg Field
Leave airport, following signs to Point Loma. This puts you on North Harbor Drive. After about 1.5 miles, take a right on Nimitz Avenue, which terminates in about 2 miles, where you follow the road to the right. Follow the sign to Mission Bay Park, being careful not to take the entrance to 8 going east. Cross the channel and turn right onto the cloverleaf labeled Ingraham Street. Stay in the right lane and take the first exit (to the right) to West Mission Bay Drive. This crosses another bridge and terminates at Mission Blvd, at Belmont Park. (The roller coaster is on your left.) Turn left on Mission Blvd and continue south. Follow directions above.
Coming south from LA on Highway 5
Continue on 5 past La Jolla exits and past Balboa Avenue to the exit marked Sea World Drive. Upon exiting, turn right onto Sea World Drive and follow the signs toward Sea World. When you are near Sea World, take the Ingraham Street exit. Stay in the right lane and take the first exit (to the right) to West Mission Bay Drive. This crosses a bridge and terminates at Mission Blvd, at Belmont Park. (The roller coaster is on your left.) Turn left on Mission Blvd and continue south. Follow directions above.
