A short ferry ride from Portland brings you to Diamond Cove, the most protected cove in Casco Bay. Water views from all over the island! The community of Diamond Cove was once Fort McKinley, built a century ago for the Spanish American War. All homes are the original Queen Anne style, red brick with slate roofs and large white porches, and they have been completely restored. See the privately owned Schoolhouse, Jail, and Bakery, go duckpin bowling in the renovated bowling alley, play basketball in the turn-of-the-century gymnasium. A paradise for history buffs, and heaven for fans of the tranquility of a coastal Maine island. Diamond Cove is a no-cars island, making it a wonderful place for families. Most homes surround the Parade Ground, a huge grassy area, perfect for ball games and kite flying. Diamond Cove has something for everyone. So sit back on your porch, relax, and take in the views. |
