Right from your door at Berner Haus (or even on Berner Haus’ 6 private acres), you can enjoy miles of some of the East's best-groomed snowmobile and cross-country ski trails, backcountry skiing, sledding (sleds provided), ice-skating (provided), and snowshoeing (provided). Look down on the fireworks every Thursday and Saturday night while sitting in your private hot tub. Within a 5 minute drive, you can enjoy skiing, snowboarding, telemarking, snow tubing, ice skating, dog sledding, skijoring, horse drawn carriage rides, live bands, fine dining and weekend family shows hosted by the Mountain. Within a 10-minute drive, you can enjoy indoor rock climbing, laser tag, a movie theater, snow tubing, glow in the dark bowling, night skiing at Mt Abram, and shopping in the quaint Bethel village. Within a 45 minute drive you can hike Mt Washington's Tuckerman's Ravine for some extreme backcountry skiing, ice climb, shop the outlets in North Conway, take the Cog Railway to the top of Mt Washington to experience what extreme weather really is, and view hundreds of miles of Maine and New Hampshire from one spot. A visit to Santa’s Village will be quite a treat for the youngest of your group (or have Santa make a stop at the Haus!).

In the summer you will enjoy the huge new heated pool and great post and beam pool house with a bathroom, changing room and wet bar, stereo, tiki bar, and full kitchen. a large professional grill, shower, pool toys, top quality patio furniture and outdoor bar. From the pool you look out over the house towards the beautiful mountain vistas. It really is incredible! To top it off, in the pool area there is a huge sand box with a space shuttle tower swingset built right in the middle for kids of all ages! We also have all kinds of beach toys in the sand area for a tropical retreat in the middle of the mountains! From your door at Berner Haus, you can enjoy marked and wild hiking trails, great mountain biking, and 4-wheeling. Sunday River’s famous mountain biking is a blast. Take the lift up, and bike down for miles. In summer, swimming in some of Sunday River's swimming holes (a short bike ride away), or sliding down Frenchman's hole waterfall is both exciting and refreshing. Canoe or fish in the beautiful Androscoggin River or one of the many surrounding crystal lakes. The Rapid River is said to be among the best anywhere for fly fishing. Try some flat or white water kayaking. Go strawberry picking or hike for wild blueberries and blackberries. Take a moose tour (or just look out your window at Berner Haus!). Take tennis lessons or play at the Bethel Inn Championship Golf course. Or, if that's not your speed, try some miniature Golf, boating, laser tag, volleyball, waterslides, arcade, horseback riding, glow-in-the-dark bowling, or indoor rock climbing, all within a 10-minute drive. Within a half hour drive, hike, drive or take the cog railway to the top of Mt. Washington (the highest peak in the east). Shop the many outlets in North Conway, go white water rafting, take the kids to 6 Gun City, Story land or Santa’s Village, or explore the many antique stores, shops and architecture in the surrounding New England villages. Among our recommended day trips is a tour of the country’s most famous light houses in the Portland area. Do a whale watching tour while you are at it.
From the Berner Haus, you will revel in the most spectacular fall foliage you have ever seen. The views are phenomenal. Enjoy one of the many fall festivals and fairs in this quaint New England town. Enjoy a day of clean fresh air hiking, mountain biking or golfing. Go apple or pumpkin picking at one of the local farms after a morning of horseback riding through the mountain range. Take a drive along the Scenic Highway of Rt. 26 to see an inevitable moose, the rock formations of Grafton Notch State Park and the awe inspiring Dixfield Notch, then lunch at the historic Balsams. Go antiquing in Bethel and the Oxford Hills area. The opportunities for a wonderful and relaxing vacation abound.
