An ideal location if you want to experience the lush tropical side of Hawaii, the active Volcano of Kilauea which is 20 minutes away and some of the best snorkeling areas on the island. All are within a 90-minute drive. Wood Valley is a lush crescent shaped forest tucked away on the southern slopes of Mauna Loa on the Big Island of Hawaii. It is paradise only few will experience. Your destination becomes a journey through a mystical forest with deep ravines carved into the raw earth to expose the naked lava floor. The fertile soils and cool climate nurture an array of exotic plants as well as coffee and macadamia nut farms. There is something new to discover around every bend, every tree, and every leaf. It is that inquisitive curiosity that will keep you coming back. The climate is great at this location. Low humidity, cool nights, and warm days will keep you comfortable. Generally it maintains a temperature of mid 70's to low 80’s, which means we don’t need an air conditioner. This is a very livable climate with very few insects. The mornings will greet you with sunshine pouring into the cottage, clouding up in the afternoons occasionally and sparkling clear nights. This is the wetter side of the Big Island, hence the water falls and lush tropical greenery. Kau is considered the Sunny side of the Volcano. Call toll free at 1-888-256-4206 Pacific time |

There is even a warm shower outside to get rid of the sand in your swimsuits! ~ All of the linens are provided such as towels, sheets, blankets, extra pillows and two guest beach towels. We have furnished lots of extras to make your vacation comfy and safe. You will find beach chairs, lawn chairs, fold out mattress, coolers, flashlights, first aid kit, candles, lanterns, clothes line and a fire extinguisher. A television with VCR/DVD player is provided for movies, a CD disc player with Hawaiian music, and a telescope for stargazing. A great selection of Hawaii interest books and local information is available also. There is minimal reception for television, radio or cell phones in Wood Valley. There is a phone but a phone card is required for long distance calls. You can log on to the internet using a dial up service. Cell phone service is available 5 minutes away. For those unfamiliar with Solar power usage everything is the same as being on the grid except for the limitations on how many electrical appliances you use at one time. We don't recommend blow drying your hair, ironing clothes and toasting bread all at the same time...otherwise it is just common sense. The generator turns on with a key and is very quiet. If there is not enough sun to charge the batteries you may need to run the generator in the evenings to recharge the batteries. Longer stays need to be more aware of this and there are complete instructions provided in the cottage. You will be amazed at the efficiency of solar power and you may even consider installing it yourself. This is a great way to experience living off the grid. We have even installed a back up water system which leaves us completely self sufficient for at least three nights in case of an unexpected water line break which can occur with tropical storms in Hawaii. It is our mission to provide our guests with the up most assurance that your safety and enjoyment is our priority while staying at Hale Aloha Aina. |
