The confluence of many cultures, both in colonial times and modern days, created the conditions that give Sante Fe the nickname “The City Different.” One stay in a Sante Fe vacation rental, and you’ll understand why.
This town’s history begins with the Spanish explorers who fused their culture with the local Indians. The result can be seen today in the famous Spanish Territorial and Pueblo architecture, the subject of many paintings and photographs. The Southwestern cuisine, now updated and fused with other global styles, also attests to the melting pot. In more recent times, notable artists such as Georgia O’Keefe have made their mark. Today, Sante Fe’s galleries comprise the third largest art market in the United States, after New York and Los Angeles. A museum housing O’Keefe’s works remains the most popular attraction, although several other arts and culture museums can also be found in the Museum Hill district.
Visitors can also ski at Taos, hike in the Sangre di Cristo Mountains, or step back in time at Bandelier National Monument, home of Native Indian dwellings and rock art.
