Some folks call Tobago the more sedate brother of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. True, Tobago has a special word for hanging out and doing nothing: “liming.” But the small country, one of the southernmost islands of the Caribbean, also has “wining,” its own sensual, passionate dancing. Most Tobago villas will be clustered near the town of Scarborough, on the southeastern end of the island, where you can find plenty of either.
The Tobago Forest Reserve introduced the notion of setting land aside for preservation back in the 1700s, and remains today a huge eco-tourism draw, especially for birders. Scuba divers also know the waters here have more species of tropical fish, turtles, and other marine life than any place else in the Caribbean, thanks to a confluence of geographical luck. And, of course, the beaches are fantastic.
